A Life Remembered

Obituary

Nancy Jane Barnby, 65, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Born in Mesa, Arizona, on July 5, 1961, to Jack and Mary (Dunlap) Barnby, Nancy lived a life rooted in love and devoted more than twenty years of her life to being a stay-at-home mom. She poured her energy, time and heart into raising her children.

Even though Nancy was a lifelong Arizona native, she carried a deep love for the ocean, especially Laguna Beach, a place she often described as healing for both the soul and the heart. To her, the beach was more than a beautiful place; it was a spiritual sanctuary where she felt a deep sense of peace, connection, and renewal. For many years, she brought that love back home to Arizona, filling her house with coastal touches that reflected the serenity and beauty she found by the sea.

Nancy’s life was defined by her deep love for others and her unwavering commitment to her family. With the family traditions that she passed on to her children, memories that she created with her grandchildren, Nancy’s spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come.

Nancy leaves behind her four children: Ashley (Robert) Majorek, Zachary Carey, Haley (Kyle) Corbo, and Riley (Ami) Carey. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Kaila, Lincoln, Tyson, Mila, Navy, Maci, Kinsley, and Emerson; her sisters: Mary, Kathi, and Claudia; her brother: Jack “Chip”; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her best friend, Mary Dee Jimenez-Camarena.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; brother William “Billy”; sister Lisa; aunt Eleanor “Ellie”; uncle Leo; nephew Tommy; and grandson Jaxton.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at St. Mary Magdalene Church at 2654 East Williams Field Road, Gilbert, Arizona 85295 at 10:30am. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Nancy’s honor.

Nancy was a kind, caring & loving mother and nana. Most of all she was a special dear friend to me. Nancy loved her family wholeheartedly and was so proud of all her children in her own special way. She had a great sense of humor and had a beautiful spirit within her. I am so blessed and grateful to have had Nancy in my life and will cherish all the beautiful memories we shared. My prayers, thoughts, and love go out to the family during this difficult time. Nancy will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Thank you Haley and Kyle for bringing Nancy into my life.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Aunt Nancy was one of the most consistently supportive and incredible examples of resilience I have had in my life. The world lost a little shine with her
